✨ 🎁 😊 Time For Thanks And Thanksgiving! 😊 🎁 ✨

As you may or may not know, across the icy blue Atlantic waters to the vast and glorious country of America, they are currently awaiting the beginning of ‘Thanksgiving’ and the holiday spell that goes with it. This is a special time to spend with family and friends, enjoying each other’s company, eating splendid food and being thankful. It may not be something that we celebrate here, but I came across a rather lovely acrostic poem about this particular time of year recently, so I thought I’d share it with you:-

Holiday Letters

T is for Turkey on ‘Thanksgiving Day’.                                                    is for “Hurry! I’m hungry!” I say.                                                           is for Auntie, she works and she mends.                                             is for Native American friends.                                                           is for Kitchen, the oven’s on low.                                                       is for Silverware, set in a row.                                                             G is for Grandma, the one we love most.                                                 is for Inside, where we’re warm as toast!                                             is for Vegetables, eat them we try.                                                        is for Ice-cream on top of the pie.                                                        is for Never do we have enough dressing!                                        G is for Grandpa, who gives thanks for our blessings. 😊

Now in the wonderful world of ‘Whimsy Wood’, this past week has been truly incredible! There are so many things that have happened recently, that I am well and truly thankful for. The first thing, being the delectable display of my ‘Whimsy Wood’ books in Edington Farm Shop. I was at their Christmas Fair recently and I was absolutely delighted at how and where they’d decided to display my books! In prime position as you enter their shop and at child height! 😃

A few days after this Christmas Fair, I received an exciting email from ‘The Royal Dragonfly Book Awards’ over in America. They wanted to inform me that ‘Posie Pixie And The Snowstorm’ and ‘Posie Pixie And The Pancakes’ (books 6 and 7 in my ‘Whimsy Wood’ series) were tied winners of the ‘Picture Book For 6 Years+’ category!! I was completely bowled over and utterly elated!!

At the weekend, I attended the annual ‘Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ conference in Winchester. I learnt a lot from the various brilliant guest-speakers. These ranged from senior editors and agents to…..

…..and Jonny Duddle. I was very fortunate, that these 3 fabulous folk kindly signed their books, that I’d brought from home with me. My 3 children were over-joyed, to see personal messages written to them on the insides of their well-thumbed copies! 😉

In the evening, I’m delighted and honoured to say that ‘Posie Pixie And The Snowstorm’ and ‘Posie Pixie And The Pancakes’, were included in the conference’s ‘Mass Book Launch’! I received my autographed certificate from fellow children’s authors, Philip Reeves and Jonny Duddle….

…..and we all celebrated with a slice of the splendid, swashbuckling ‘Mass Book Launch’ cake! It featured front covers of all the books that were included in this fabulous launch and I must say, it was the best chocolate cake I think I’ve ever had! 😋

For all these terrific things that I’ve mentioned above, I am indeed very, very thankful. On that note, I shall bid you farewell and wish you a truly happy thanksgiving! 😃✨

✨ 🎄 😃 Christmas Fair Fun And Frolics! 😃 🎄 ✨

I don’t know about you, but I can certainly smell Christmas, if that is indeed possible!?! It’s almost within reach and I for one get so excited about this wonderfully jolly and cosy time of year. 😊 With this in mind, my ‘Whimsy Wood’ children’s series and I were delighted to have a stall at Townsend Barn Nursery’s Christmas Fair this week in Poulshot Village Hall in Wiltshire. There were mini mince pies galore and mulled wine flowing for all! It was a truly splendid evening! 😃

So that was the first of our Christmas Fairs this year and the next is this coming Tuesday (November the 17th), at Edington Farm Shop in Edington, Wiltshire. This farm shop is classed as Wiltshire’s best farm shop and rightly so, as it is really fabulous. Their Christmas Fairs are always jam-packed with music and merriment, jolly folk and beautiful, unique gifts for all, so it really is worth popping along if you’re free! 😉 This year’s Christmas Fair at Edington Farm Shop starts at 3pm and carries on until 10pm. Behind the scenes of ‘Whimsy Wood’, work has been progressing well on the creation of hard back versions of my 1st 7 books. We had so many requests and enquiries for hard backs, that it only seemed right to listen to demand from ‘Whimsy Wood’ fans! 😃 Above is the hard back of ‘Posie Pixie And The Copper Kettle’ and below is a beautiful image of Posie, as she appears in this 1st instalment from my award-winning children’s series.

Here's 'Henry Horse', feeling very grateful for Posie's help. 😊

Finally, our next ‘Whimsy Wood’ competition is up and running on our Facebook and Twitter sites. This competition ends at midnight tonight! (Sunday November the 15th) To enter, all you need to do is click on one of the links below and follow the simple instructions. You could be a winner of a signed copy of ‘Posie Pixie And The Fireworks Party’! Good luck! 😉😃https://www.facebook.com/pages/Whimsy-Wood-Series/476339045765043?ref=hl

Now, as I look down on the woodland floor of the enchanting ‘Whimsy Wood’, I can see ‘Wibble Woodlouse’ scuttling off home, to the copper kettle house that she lives in with ‘Posie Pixie’. Wibble had been visiting her family who live under the large lime log in the middle of the wood, you see. She often does that on a Sunday afternoon. 😉 ‘Skittle Spider’ is busy weaving charming cobwebs in the lower branches of an old oak tree and ‘Dr Tustle the tawny owl’ is about to leave his nest and visit ‘Raspberry Rabbit’. She hurt her paw whilst tidying up her ‘Treasure Room’ in her burrow earlier today, poor thing.

Well, that’s it from me for now. I’ll close the heavy oak doors to the magical world of ‘Whimsy Wood’ today and wish you a wonderfully whimsical week ahead. 😊

💫😃 Flaming Firework Fun! 😃💫

One minute it’s Halloween, the next minute it’s Bonfire Night! Before we know it, it’ll be Christmas! Yes I know, I’ve gone and said the ‘c’ word! But don’t fret, I won’t mention it again (well, not today anyway!) as there’s too much to say about the fabulous fifth of November!

First and foremost, and being the animal-lover that I am, I feel I must warn you about bonfires and what could be lurking within them. Especially if it’s been standing for a few days, waiting patiently for Bonfire Night. All sorts of creatures have a tendency to hide amongst piles of sticks and logs – we only know too well from ‘The Gruffalo’, as the snake in the story lives in a log pile house of course! 😉

Now, it’s not snakes I’m thinking of, with it being a typical damp and dreary November day here in bonny Blighty, but hedgehogs and similar small wild furries. Please take a look at the image below, thank you.

Ok, so that’s my responsible, nature safety bit done. Now onto more fun things! “Do you happen to have a Whimsy Wood story about fireworks, or the month of November?” I hear you ask. Well, funnily enough I do! In fact, ‘Posie Pixie And The Fireworks Party’, (my fourth Whimsy Wood children’s book) is both about fireworks and this marvellous month (let’s try and stay positive!) of November! Here’s the front cover of ‘Posie Pixie And The Fireworks Party’, to wet your whistle so to speak!

In this particular story, ‘Posie Pixie’ is going to be paid a visit by a certain special someone….Who could this be I wonder? Will Posie be pleased? Well, you’ll just have to read the story to find out! 😉😊 To tempt you even more I shall give you a wee extract from this ‘fan-fizzle-tastic’ book (according to ‘Ping Pixie’ that is!)

‘…….we’ve not had a fireworks party in Whimsy Wood for years!” Mr Bilberry whistled. “You’ll need toffee-apples, flapjack and crackle-crunch cakes you know Posie.”

“Oh yes and we’ll have pixie hokey-pokey and scrumptious slow-slush!” she said, whilst dancing about happily in her purple pixie boots.

“Now in all my days, I’ve not heard of those! They sound delicious!” He trilled.

“Hmmm, I’d better write some invitations too,” Posie said and she adjusted her bluebell hat, which jingled and tinkled as she did so. …’

Last but not least, here are some cracking comments about ‘Posie Pixie And The Fireworks Party’ that I’d like to share with you. 😃

“Adorably British! I wished this book was in my library when I was a young gal.” – Vegbooks.org  Washington, DC, USA.

“It was really funny when Wibble snored with her feet in the air! It’s so cool that Ping is a boy pixie who sometimes sets fire to his hair!” – Rory Gaule, aged 5 years.

“Children smile their way through this book, whether listening or reading for themselves. There’s a plethora of woodland animals helping the ever cheerful Posie and the ‘squeak, squeak, squeak’ of Wibble Woodlouse, children just adore!” – Mrs Kerry Parker, Deputy Head at Corsham Primary School, Corsham, Wiltshire.

Wishing you all a wonderfully whimsical remainder of the week! 😃
